That very thing killed our neighbors when I was growing up - brand new car that started "dieseling" after they closed the garage door and went to bed. Both dead the next morning. This needs to be ABSOLUTELY addressed by BMW. I'm calling customer service first thing in the morning. This is as big a deal as "my car occasionally bursts into flames and squirts gasoline on the walls from the headlight washers".
