I don't remember clearly, but I think that if you open the covers (with the key) you will see the screws that hold the boots on to the crossbar.

I have to tell you, it really sets the car apart. I get a lot of compliments from people at the trails. Everyone thinks its a super expensive full carbon fiber rack.
Another plus, is that the actual aluminum is as fresh as day one since its not being in contact with the environment.

Yes I am very interested in doing this.

However there are no exposed screws in the foot of the crossbar or the foot itself. Contacted Thule and they have no idea either as they did not make the rack. This rack was manufactured for BMW in Poland. Not sure who manufactures it though.
