On the heels of Jaguar revealing
its aspirations for a potential F30 3-series fighter, Hyundai's CEO is now also dropping hints about a potential F30 competitor. John Krafcik recently said to Automotive News
that "The Genesis Coupe is in the same segment, really, as the 3-series coupe" and "One of the things we're thinking is: Should we do something that's a sedan version of that?"
If it came to fruition, the Genesis sports sedan would share the same RWD platform now used for the Genesis sedan and coupe, but styling would be closer to the Genesis Coupe's sportier looks than the Genesis sedan's large sedan styling. According to Automotive News' news, the vehicle has been in Hyundai's pipeline since 2006 and is internally codenamed the "RK."
The small sports sedan segment is already an ultra competitive sphere, with the 3-series, C-class, A4, IS, and G35, but it sounds like the competition could be heating up even more if both Jaguar and Hyundai both throw their hats in the ring with their very own sports sedan.
The one thing that all the competitors share in common is that they are all gunning for the king of the segment - the 3-series. And we cannot wait to see what standard BMW will set when it unleashes its next generation F30 3-series next year!
