I too have owned 3 Series with AS (2007 E92-335i) and now VSS (F30-335i).

I prefer the VSS, which to me feels more natural than the AS did in low speed manoeuvres. The VSS is definitely better (faster and more direct) than the standard steering, especially in Sport mode. AS has been replaced by VSS.
