340i 6MT (90% Sport mode) - maximum average is around 28mpg (BMW quote 28 as the 'urban' or minimum!!) - that's around 80% town and 20% motorway. Fairly quick driving where road conditions allow, try to keep a light foot around town!
This thread could be confusing as a UK gal = 1.2 US gals!! I'm surprised to see US 340i owners getting over 28mpg unless they're doing a lot more highway driving than me (which I guess is quite likely)
