I agree, the CDV has little, if anything, to do with the 'notchy' feel going from the 1-2 shift. My F10 535i definitely has the CDV and there is absolutely no 'notchy' feel going between *any* gear. It is smooth as butter. Meanwhile, my M3 has no CDV on it yet it is notchy as hell 1-2 and a little 2-3 until the tranny really warms up.

The CDV will effect clutch feel, but not the 'notchy' feel of shifting. That's all in the linkage between the shifter and the tranny and presumably has to do with the tranny and synchros as well.

I haven't tried shifting an F30 yet. Given that BMW did such a wonderful job with the shifting action on the F10, I'm hoping the F30 is very nice.
