You're right, in this thread
Flat tyre monitor (doesn't tell you which one) there was some discussion about this, but seemed like the conclusion was the 3 Series system is just flat/low-pressure warning, unlike the 'proper' TPMS you get on the 5 Series?
(Oh and there must be a particular situation where the system doesn't tell you which tyre has the problem as I experienced in that thread, because this morning it definitely did say which one!).
