A CDV is a valve in the clutch hydraulic which restricts the flow of hydraulic fluid. In so doing, it limits how fast the clutch allows the driveline to engage.

It can make it easier for the inexperienced manual operator (a CDV helps avoid stalls and abrupt upshifts), but is incredible annoying and frustrating for someone who can properly handle a manual transmission.
