From what I can see it’s not a brand new engine but the same aluminium N57 engine that was fitted to the E9X LCI models, albeit fettled with to give more power and torque.

Besides that, you're correct that the N57 is the platform for ALL 6 cylinder diesel engined BMWs at the moment. It's in single, twin scroll variant in the 30Ds, a twin turbo state in the 35Ds and 40Ds and Tri-Turbo setup in the 50Ds.
