It is a hybrid of sorts... based off of the N55
BUT... Alpina uses a twin turbo setup like used on N54 engines. Alpina uses their own software and their own Bosch DME. In fact their engines earn a cleaner low emissions rating in the EU norm cycle than BMW's own engines. EU6. BMW's N55 is only rated at EU5. The higher the number the lower the emissions and tax based on CO2 in grams/kilometer traveled.
