What would be the implications of just leaving winter tyres in place all year round? I assume that the winter ones would wear more quickly in the summer but would performance / grip also be significantly compromised in warmer weather?

Comparison of tyre types, the winters don't fare as badly as you might think, so no rush to change back to summers.
