Audi and MB showed that people in that segment are usually looking for badge and looks rather than driving quality. I think the CLA is actually losing steam, we'll see if the A3 can hold up but yeah a lot of those entry level buyers don't seem to care (or even aware) that they're FWD (though there is an AWD option). Actually I've read the A3 is a pretty good drive for a FWD car.

Then again, the 2 series is a coupe exclusively so that really limits sales to those looking for more practicality. The 320i sort of makes a 2 series sedan moot from a sales/marketing perspective.
