Yes, that pdf shows a great walkthrough of all the steps required.
As for VCM vs ECU I have no idea what that means. I am not a coding expert. All I know is I have been using the resources sent to me by shawnsheridan to code my car without issue for the past year or so. If you have more detailed questions about coding I would go to the DIY/Coding forum and post a question or PM shawnsheridan directly.
