Always a good idea but I don't since my E36 is a dedicated track car. When I was tracking my 335 I had State Farm, which covered me at that time. They have since changed their Exclusion Policy and no longer cover a car on any race track surface.

Prior to getting the State Farm insurance, I did track my 335 for 2 years without coverage when I was on the track.

You should call your agent and ask if their policies cover on the track. If they do then you just have to watch for any changes in their exclusion policy, which they are supposed to send you whenever they make changes.

Other than that, you can get track day insurance. You can check this for rates and programs: http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com/Default.aspx.
