I imagine the rationale for the difference in UK and US markets is that US cars generally use the brake light to indicate (signal). So BMW had to implement dynamic braking another way - makes sense (although I've seen flashing brake lights on a Merc and it really worked well in that I realised he was slamming on the anchors). Additional brake lights aren't as effective (IMO after looking at the Vid posted above)
Right, so judging by the UK and US manual differences, we have a definitive answer. US illuminates inner tail-lights and UK flash rapidly.
Win for the UK?

Just one more question then; do the hazard lights deploy just as the vehicle is coming to a stop like they do here in the UK? I assume in all markets, the windows and sunroof close in this extreme driving situation, along with seatbelt pre-tensioners.

Now I just want a video of the UK ones flashing!! Goddamn snow here!
