They don't always fit depending on the model and the wheel. I bought a set of original e90 225 R17 wheels on eBay and they didn't fit over the rear brake callipers of my f30 330d. Which is strange because the f30 came with 255 R17s at the back.

I think the 330d and 335i have slightly larger rear brakes than the 4 cylinder models. So the moral is try before you buy or go for the 18s. Unfortunately running 18s means that if you want to stick with the run flats (like I do), your only option is Pirelli SottoZero, which cost about 40-50% more than decent winter RFT 17s, such as Dunlop WinterSport M3.
