Yep, it's an annoying "safety" feature. I've learned to just rely on the rear view camera with the parking lines enabled which actually works really well for me. The 6MT cars definitely don't do it - I had a 2014 F32 6MT before my 8AT F33 and I opened the door to back up all the time.
