I get about the same as the OP for my daily commute (23 miles each way, half town, half dual carriageway).
On a longer run of mostly m'way/duals I get around 56mpg.
Good enough for me, as my previous Merc SLK petrol did 24mpg, and I used to be filling that every week. Now I fill up once every 18 days on average, in a car with a 13 litre smaller tank.
Even with the price difference between petrol & diesel, I'm paying nearly £20 less per tank and running nearly 3 times longer than in the SLK.
