Audi's 4 cylinder outsold their 6 cylinder for the A4 by such a large margin, they eventually stopped selling their 6 cylinder version in the USA. But their 6 cylinder was never the monster that BMW's N55 is, so that was part of the reason.
But to answer your question, some people just like a 6 cylinder. I'm in that camp. I drive fast on the highway. At fast highway speeds, there's nothing like having a smooth powerful 6 cylinder for passing the idiot in front of you that doesn't move over.
