BMW have given up on coolant gauges and go for the oil temperature. Should have both really, as both are useful and give insight on when to drive an engine and when to be restrained. You'd need to access the hidden menu to read engine coolant temperature (ECT).
BTW, Your F31 will have the oil temperature gauge, but again no engine coolant gauge. Whether you can bring up ECT on the iDrive on the latest models, I don't know. May still need to use the hidden menu.
