For me its definetely the feel of the car and its connection to the driver. And thats just coming from a 335i owner. I can only imagine what it would be like in an ///M car. I have driven M cars but its different when you own it and spend hours behind the wheel. One of these days Ill pick up a preowned 1M.
I think the HPFP smeared that for them. But I honestly havent had many problems with my 3er's. Just small stupid stuff. All 3 we owned have been very solid but granted we have kept none of them past 65-70k so I cant elaborate any further after that. BUt I have ran into quite a few e46's with well over 150k on the clock.
