Is the status still the same for 2013 that full ipod integration via Apple USB requires either 1) Tech/Nav or 2) BMW Assist?

With the upcoming idrive/nav updates (that now look like they won't be included for MY2013 F30 sedans), I was wondering if perhaps they also added the combox as standard.

I've seen pictures with the Apple USB interface, any pictures out there of what the interface is like with just a Y cable? For those using just a y-cable how do you like the interface?
