While I like the idea of the hybrid, from strictly a cost perspective, I find it a challenge to justify the premium, especially since it seems the non-hybrid F30 will have such good gas mileage. Back of the envelope math - probably save 50-100 gallons of gas/year depending on how many miles driven/year and gas mileage assumptions. Even assuming $4/gal, the savings/year is $200-400. Even if you stretch things where you would save 150 gallons/year, that is still only $600/year savings. You would need to own the car a long time to make up for the premium. I realize there are other benefits like reduced CO2, but for me, cannot make the leap. Curious to hear what others think though.
