Although I didn't need convincing, I will certainly continue my regime of doing oil changes regularly when I want to do them, regardless of when BMW tell me I need to do them.
The relatively small cost for an oil change for my own peace of mind is well worth it in my opinion.
BTW, read the article in the link about the Audi guy porting and polishing his engine with blasting sand - what a total moron!!

Same here. I tend to change oil about every 8000km, which is about 6 months use for me.
