The factory figures are in-gear times for manual gearbox cars. The times by Autobild are kickdown from top gear cruising (or highest possible gear for the starting cruising speed). The factory times for the 320d are corroborated by the in-gear times recorded by Autocar's roadtest report on a manual 320d. They got 80-112km/h @ 4th/5th in 5.3s & 7.0s respectively (vs the factory times I quoted for 80-120km/h). The rev range for 320d for 80-120km/h in 4th is 2100rpm-3100rpm & in 5th is 1670rpm-2500rpm. The rev range for 328i for 80-120 in 4th is 2500rpm-3800rpm & in 5th is 2000rpm-3100rpm. Pls remember the effective powerband for a diesel engine is 1000-4500rpm whereas for petrol engine is 1000-6500rpm, so a diesel revving at 2750rpm is roughly equivalent to petrol revving at 3750rpm.
My driving style is to use the torque at the highest possible gear w/o the need to kickdown, & I nearly always use EcoPro (never in Sport or Sport+).
BMW does care abt the badging cos it's to differentiate them in their performance hierarcy. If u talk abt M-cars u can only compare like for like (e.g. F10 M5 & F10 535i, not E9x M3 & F30 335i).
