These modern cars use a huge amount of power when you turn them on without starting the engine.
I have regularly measured discharge rates of well over 20amps from the battery just from turning on the ignition. Now turn on the radio and have the AC fan blowing and you will quickly drain even the largest battery fitted.
Models before the E90 and F30 would very seldom have double digit amp draws.
