All F30s have sport/comfort driving modes, but only F30s with the M Adaptive Suspension package actually tighten/loosen the suspension respectively. Without M Adaptive, the driving modes simply change the throttle response, steering feel, etc. but
not the suspension.
The M Adaptive package basically adds advanced electronic functionality to your vehicle's handling dynamics + gives you adjustable damping based on your driving mode. Both the Sport suspension or M Adaptive suspension lower your ride height by 10mm vs. stock.
ric124 posted a picture of his setup; the wire sticking out goes through to the the M Adaptive unit. (however these are aftermarket springs):
