I am so lucky that I caught him in the act though. I wouldn't have checked the car if I hadn't of seen him and when I eventually found it I would have had to put my hand in my pocket to fix it.
I am not too worried about identifying him via CCTV as I expect the registered keeper of that vehicle will match my description. It will be his word against mine and two witnesses.
The bad news about the repair if he refuses to pay / the police can't make him is the car is a company one and the excess is high.
