I agree an I4 will never be as smooth as an i6, and an i6 vs a V8 vs a V12 etc etc, but the 320d is an amazing engine and will probably go down a storm in the US if people can look at the benefits.
It is widely known that BMW regret brining the 335d to the US and wish they had brought a 330d instead. 95% of the peformance and shove, but no weird urea system. The 330d engine is probably the best real world compormise out there.
