At most 2-3 car lengths is about 45 feet.
2-3 seconds (traveling 70mph) is about 205-308 feet.
In the city it'd be really hard to keep 205 feet between you and the car in front of you on the highway.

I remember what it's like in traffic, trust me. No judging here. I guess I'm just lucky that I almost never have to drive in rush hour traffic.
