If you lock your car with your alternate fob, the key fob inside your car will become delisted. Thus, the car will no longer rely upon it for authentication.

Now, this is not a perfect science for long term reliance. However, it was designed for when you lock your wife's purse in the car (with the key in the purse).
So how do you make it active again? Bring to dealer to charge an arm and a leg for it to work again? Hehe
