All cars are vented to atmosphere so door gaps, window seals, etc. shouldn't have any perceptible impact on cabin pressurization. Open windows and sunroof obviously WILL have an impact, but not when everything is buttoned up. I can't explain the ear popping unless you had the A/C or ventilation cranking and not on recirc. Even then the pressure would be very low.
