I couldn't agree more !!!! With M Sport, you could get black dakota leather (no red stitching !!!!) with burl walnut/satin chrome trim which looks very classy ! Take a look @ rjc32000's "Glacier silver M Sport in Alaska" thread. It's a stunning looking car !
Then there's that fabulous M Sport steering wheel that makes the Sportline wheel feel so plastic-like.
Another important part of the M Sport package are the great looking staggered wheels (which used to be standard on the E90-335i sport package) and proper summer performance tires.
As for the aesthetics of the front face, I think the cleaner looking M Sport will stand the test of time much better than the fussy looking facias of the lines.
But of course, it's all in the eye of the beholder.
