We got our first real snowfall last night, and the roads are covered with 1-2" of packed snow today. I've never used winter tires before and have always stuck with all seasons year round (albeit on cars w/ AWD) despite living in a place where the snow sticks on the ground all winter long. I have to say I was very impressed with the grip from my all seasons today, and felt very secure. Granted, I didn't do any hard braking and ice hasn't formed yet, but I felt like I had a decent amount of grip and traction. I'm getting my winter tires installed tomorrow (Blizzak WS70), but if you are willing to sacrifice some grip and [most importantly] decreased braking distance, you can probably get by without a dedicated set of winter tires in this car if you drive cautiously and defensively.
