On the BMWUSA 800 number, 'In transit' means on-board ship. The sequence from end of production to 'in transit' is:

'Released to Carrier' (Status 182)
'Being Transported to Port of Exit' (Status 190)
'At Port Awaiting Shipping Vessel' (Status 193)
'In Transit' : You are on board a ship and it is on its way.
