People do indeed base purchases on fuel consumption. I'd have bought an E90 M3 if it got even semi-reasonable mileage, but 14/20 is just irresponsible. I'm hoping the new F80 is at least similar to the current x35i cars in terms of mileage. I really don't care if it's as fast as the E9x cars, but I'd hope it's lighter, more efficient and out handles it.
Straight line performance is pretty high in nearly every car these days, I'm not as concerned with that as handling and a certain amount of efficiency. I'm not a fan of turbos, but if they keep performance high with better efficiency, I'm on board with that. Even electronic throttles don't feel as nice as mechanical connections, but they're just the way things have gone for efficiency's sake.
