I shipped it back to them, once again, and they responded that the lens is irreparable and they are going to issue me a refund of the purchase price of the lens. The representative mentioned that this particular lens has been very problematic.
I'm thinking about the Sigma 17-50/2.8 OS as a replacement. Any advice or recommendation?

Just saw this Matt..I have that lens on my 550d/T2i and the majority of my recent shots in the 6 months or so have been with that lens. My scorpion shot was with this lens as was my vacation shots to Punta Cana. I love it, great carry anywhere lens IMHO.
The below shots were all taken with that lens(as was my sunset/sunray shot in snapshot of the day thread....
