That is true; all those others have introduced their cars with carryover engines. I noticed the same thing.

Actually, introducing a new platform with an old engine is standard for BMW - but a new 3 coupe usually rolls out about 18 months after BMW introduced the platform with the 3 sedan - and in the past the coupe has had a new engine.

I'm seeing 0-60 test results in the high 4s for the 335i; it probably doesn't need a new engine. I did expect one, though.
