The fog lights - and the active cruise sensor both take up a good chunk of real estate in front of the radiators, and I am thinking (whether we agree or not) that this is the reason for the incompatibility.

I still think I'm right.
If they would pull the fog lights to remove airflow obstructions, then it make sense that they would do the same for that giant rectangle for active cruise in the middle.
Maybe in the future, BMW will build that somewhere else into the vehicle bumper. But I hope it doesnt look like the original caddies with the night vision:
