Those with automatics, try this...

So when I start up my car in the morning, I always put it in manual mode (move the stick over to the left). I don't warm it up. I just let it idle forward out of my parking space... maybe a little bit of gas. But then, at about 2.5k RPM, the car shifts to 2nd gear. It's in fully manual mode but it automatically does this. This only seems to happen in the morning on cold starts.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I read somewhere that the Automatics in the F30 "learns" your patterns and applies it to the driving. Could it be that it's shifting for me in manual mode?

I also know that the car will shift for you when you red line it... even in fully manual mode. Obviously, it's to protect the engine. But could it be that it's protecting the cold engine from revving too high?
