I don't really know if there is such a big difference.

People always tend to stick on the extra badges from more expensive models/cars on their entry level cars. Do you have a BMW you have the M-badge, a Mercedes gets the AMG-logo and so on. And about a decade ago all the top-end models were 16 valve cars, so that is what "people" used back then.

I haven't seen a 16v badge on a car the past ten, fifteen years.

edit: I'm not saying you didn't see 16v-badges, I'm just saying back when people used to stick them on their cars the top of the line cars used to have them. So what I'm saying is that every market is just the same. People use badges from the more expensive models on their cars, but the cars are different for each market.
