In my experience with VW DSG (GTI) and the ZF8, I prefer the ZF8 to the DSG by a long shot. The ZF8 has instant shifts and also super smooth at low speeds unlike the DSG. I think the new S4 will be better with ZF8 rather than the DSG they had in earlier models.
My only complaint is that 8 gear ratios are a bit too much for manual shifting.
Having said that, I still prefer the third pedal. All my cars are 6-speed manuals.
