OP, do a search for "loss of power malfunction" and you will find some helpful information.
A sudden dramatic loss of power, in conjunction with a loud fan noise and potential steering wheel vibration = electric cooling fan malfunction.
There won't be any codes visible to you, but your dealer will be able to see them. Good luck.
