Actually, I did feel that I "needed" the 6mt over the 6at on my 328i. It's a significant performance gain on a engine with 200 lb-ft. And this engine has to be worked a little bit to stay in the sweet spot.
but now with the 8at and the torque getting much higher and the torque curve so flat, the manual has no benefit anymore.
