That sounds stupid to me, two production lines creating the same product one with old and one with new iDrive.

My thinking would be that they probably have a Canadian Specific Assembly line that manufactures to Canadian specs.......
Old tech and all!
....also.... those of us who special order items ( i.e. I had the 2TB Sport Auto option put on my 328i) have one-offs built as part of the assembly.....
