I took my car in Wednesday for the recall repair, also my brakes said they needed replacement in 1k mi (car has 20k). My advisor said so far three people at that dealership required actual replacement of camshafts and that they don't have them in stock and would take around three days. Mine did not need replacement. The repair order stated:

Found internal sealing cover of the camshaft in original position. Installed spring steel sleeve in cam shaft per SIB instructions.

I am guess it is something to just hold it in place so it doesn't occur in the future. They also reprogrammed my entire car (erased all my coding across all ecu's). They said my pads were 11mm in the front and my maintenance now says front brakes due in 20k miles..
