Yes it's fcuking stupid. My wife dropped me at the pub yesterday and drove home but I inadvertently had the keys still in my pocket. She gets home, switches off the car and goes to the house. She then realises she can't get in the house because I locked up and she hasn't got her own keys. Goes back to the car which of course won't start because the key (me) is three miles away. So she had to wait in the car, in the rain, for me to get a taxi back complete with keys.

In fairness the I-Drive was flashing a big warning about the key being absent but women don't look at things like that.
