do you use Waze?
havent used the m1 north of sheffield for a while so cant help on that bit but for me if you have to drive then J29, A617 to Chesterfield and then A619 to Chapel is a decent route. Take the road over to Glossop and go in via M67 and you come in to Manchester at right side for skipping round ring road to Salford way I think....
But seriously unless you have a load of stuff to carry, on a Friday take a train, picturesque route and no stress (if they are running!)
