They'll probably share the same engine range as the coupes, so a n20 based 428i (or something) will be in there. Considering Audi A5 sportbacks start with 1.8L fwd versions, they should compete pretty well.
Agree about the bastardisation of the coupe segment. If it's got 4 doors, it's not really a coupe, even if it has a coupe roofline. I think both Audi and BMW want to keep these things distinct from their normal sedan range, even though the actual market for them is almost identical.
