Another question I do have regarding my E90 (and therefore probably the F30), if I go to menu 19 and unlock all the menu's by entering the total of the final 5 VIN numbers, can I mess things up? I would be interested to see them all and understand them but I will go without if there is a risk I can screw my car up!

There are some correction functions you can slightly change.
The F30 list of tests is different from the E90 one
There are some youtube videos that show the all tests on the E90
